A Thousand Words

What do you see when you look at this picture?  Cuteness, no doubt, and that is certainly true.

But when look at it, I also see Elijah in all of his two-ness.  This is one stubborn child, and this picture says it all.  These days, he wants to eat all his snacks in "his chair", which, as you can see, is not a high chair, but rather a stain-absorbent armchair.  I see him still wearing his pajama shirt, which he refused to take off.  We compromised after he agreed to put some "real" pants on.  And by compromised, I mean that I was persuaded by his repeated cries of, "I wear elephant shirt" when I tried to change him.  I see a boy who will barely let me take a picture of him because he wants to "see it" before it's even taken. And I know that behind the camera is a tired mama who, at 8.5 months pregnant, does not have the energy to fight any of these battles.

But even as I am writing this,  I know that the years are short though the days are long, and soon I will once again look back at this picture, and all I will see is my cute baby who is a baby no longer.  So, carry on, sweet boy.  I'll go get the OxyClean.
